Italian architect Lanfranco Cirillo arrived in Moscow in 1991 at the start of his career -- and soon found himself designing dachas, homes, and offices for Russia’s mega-rich. He remained largely unknown until 2011 when he was revealed to be the architect of a sprawling palatial residence in southern Russia allegedly built for President Vladimir Putin. Cirillo has since been known as "Putin's architect" and last year was awarded Russian citizenship by Putin. (RFE/RL's Tom Balmforth)
